Our Mission
Friends of Belle-Rivière (FBR) is a charitable organization that assists the residents of Belle-Rivière – a rural area in the south of Haiti – in the long-term development of their community by meeting basic human needs for food, clean water, health, education, and sustainable commerce and infrastructure.
Our Focus
FBR is focused on an isolated community which has little or no access to government or other sources of external support.
Residents identify and prioritize their own needs.
Local coordinators engage reliable contractors, local labor, and volunteers to complete projects.
Facilitators, both in the U.S. and in Haiti, volunteer their efforts. No one is paid to coordinate.
A country cannot overcome this level of need without outside intervention.

Our Approach
DIRECT & CONSISTENT SUPPORT
FBR helps the community develop solutions which are typically not available from other sources, which establish predictability and consistency in their living patterns.
LoCAL COORDINATION & LEADERSHIP
The projects are prioritized by local residents with an emphasis on long-term development. Projects are coordinated and verified by community leaders. FBR assists with organization, connections and financial resources.
ACCESS TO MORE resources
In addition to financial support, FBR connects this remote village to information and resources available through other organizations based both inside and outside of Haiti.
LONG TERM DEVELOPMENT
Assistance is provided through a combination of ongoing programs which continue from year to year, and larger one-time projects, typically focused on long-term development, which can take several years to complete.
