Friends of Belle-Riviere, Inc. evolved from the outreach efforts of Friends of Awakening,
an Indianapolis-based meditation group seeking ways to benefit those in extreme need.

This site is designed to acquaint interested parties with the community of Belle-Rivière, recent developments, residents, their needs and priorities, and the ways in which this organization intends
to address those priorities.
Although there are very few details in the U.S. news media, for more than a year the Haitian people have been demonstrating their dissatisfaction with the current government. The first article below, "Haiti Is in the Streets," offers an unusually comprehensive explanation issues leading today's crisis. The author, Amy Wilentz, teaches in the Literary Journalism program at the University of California at Irvine.
